Local Transportation
Moving around Milano: metro, suburban railways, buses, trams, taxis, and shared mobility.
SHARED MOBILITY
Thanks to smart mobility, getting around Milan is convenient and sustainable: using cars, scooters, bikes, and electric kick-scooters.
Sharing is a green choice that supports efficient resource use while reducing urban traffic and environmental impact. Milan actively encourages alternative transport solutions and sustainable forms of mobility.
Milano is served by Lombardy’s transport network, one of the most widespread and efficient in Europe, with train, bus, metro, and tram networks.
UNDERGROUND AND TRAIN LINES
The underground network comprises five lines:
- M1 (Red Line): Connects the city center (Duomo, San Babila) directly to Allianz MiCo (via Lotto).
- M2 (Green Line): Connects the main railway stations (Centrale FS, Garibaldi FS, Cadorna FN).
- M3 (Yellow Line): Traverses north-south connecting Centrale FS with Duomo and southern districts.
- M4 (Blue Line): Connects Milan Linate Airport directly to the city center and San Babila.
- M5 (Lilac Line): Serves Allianz MiCo directly at the Portello station.
Contactless payment (credit card, debit card, or smartphone) is accepted directly at all subway turnstiles.
BUS & TRAM NETWORK
Milano boasts an extensive surface network with more than 120 bus and tram routes covering every neighborhood 24/7.
The historic tram cars of line 1, 10, and 19 offer an authentic architectural tour through the city center and Navigli district.
TAXI & RIDE HAILING
Official white taxis in Milano are metered and can be booked via telephone (+39 02 8585, +39 02 6969, +39 02 4040) or through popular smartphone booking apps (FreeNow, Wetaxi). Taxi ranks are situated at all railway stations, airports, and major city squares.
BIKE SHARING
Milan offers the BikeMi municipal bike-sharing system (both traditional and e-bikes) with hundreds of stations across the city, as well as multiple free-floating bike and e-scooter providers.
